Raj Nayak, CEO of Colors has stated that due to a breach of contract, attitude issues and demand for hike compelled Colors to take strict action. India's renowned comedian Kapil Sharma is no more a part of Colors due to fallout.
Nayak revealed the details about the controversy in an interview with The Times of India (via India Today).
"The success of the show meant that we had a person who suddenly became a star and found it difficult to manage his success. He started renegotiating and asking for more money which we gave, but the more important and worrying thing was that he violated his contract by hosting shows on competitive channels in spite of having an exclusive contract with Colors for TV, which we felt was not ethical," Nayak said in the interview.
According to Nayak, the problems between Sharma and the channel started after the launch of another comedy show titled "Comedy Nights Bachao." Colors wanted movie stars to appear on the new show; however Sharma did not appreciate this move.
"His managers started panicking when in terms of ratings, Comedy Nights Bachao started doing well and better than Comedy Nights With Kapil in some episodes. And instead of working with our creative team and finding ways to reinvent and make the show ratings better, they kept living in denial and started casting aspersions on the channel," Nayak added.
Nayak also mentioned that the channel did not do "Comedy Nights Bachao" by choice; they asked Sharma to not make his show once a week as it becomes financially difficult for the channel. He added that Sharma stated that he is busy with his movies. Sharma not only made the show once a week but also double his remuneration and since the channel had kept the 10 p.m. slot for comedy, they had no choice but to release "Comedy Nights Bachao."
Nayak wished the best for Sharma's future endeavors. He mentioned despite the fallout, there are no hard feelings for the comedian. He explained that in the television industry, people part ways but later they patch up.
