"Moonlight" star Naomie Harris has signed a deal to star opposite "Moana" actor Dwayne Johnson in New Line's adaptation of the 1980s arcade video game "Rampage." She is going from fighting substance abuse to fighting giant monsters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harris will play as a geneticist with a moral streak in "Rampage." She sparked to the fun tone of the script. Johnson is, naturally, an animal-loving hero, who is the world's only hope.
The plot details of "Rampage" are being kept under wraps, Variety reported. However, like the game, it will feature three creatures, namely, a monstrously transformed gorilla, crocodile, and wolf. These creatures cause chaos on North American cities and landmarks.
Harris' casting in "Rampage" came out after her Oscar nomination for "Moonlight." Ryan Engle wrote the original draft, with work done by Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal. Adam Sztykiel did the most current revisions.
"Rampage" reunites Johnson with his "San Andreas" team, including Brad Peyton as director and Beau Flynn as producer. The team previously proved to be a combustible combination with "San Andreas" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island."
Flynn is producing "Rampage" with John Rickard via his Wrigley Pictures banner and Hiram Garcia, Johnson's partner who is producing through 7 Bucks Entertainment. Peyton is also producing through his ASAP Entertainment banner.
Marcus Viscidi, Jeff Fierson, and Dany Garcia are executive producing "Rampage." Wendy Jacobson of Flynn Picture Co. is overseeing.
Johnson's latest movie is "Moana," which nabbed him an Oscar nomination. Meanwhile, Harris has been riding high on the beams cast by "Moonlight," nabbing a slew of nominations such as Golden Globe, BAFTA Awards, and SAG Awards for her performance as an abusive mother of a gay son.
Apart from a recent awards season run for her performance in "Moonlight," Harris is best known for her role as Eve Moneypenny in Daniel Craig's "James Bond" films and starred in the zombie movie "28 Days Later." She is repped by WME and Untitled Entertainment, Ziffren Brittenham and Tavistock Wood in the U.K.
"Rampage" is scheduled for a release on April 20, 2018.
