Unlike most of the explosive, action-packed trailers that usually accompany big superhero releases, the Super Bowl TV spot for Hugh Jackman's "Logan" had a more somber tone. The new ad reminds fans that Jackman's next outing as Wolverine is unlike the others in the "X-Men" movie franchise.

A soulful rendition of "Amazing Grace" served as background to the gritty, brutal footages from "Logan." The new also shows that "Logan" meant serious business when it aimed for an R-rating. There's more blood and more thrilling car chases, but the movie does not hold back on the violence.

In another "Logan" TV spot, fans get a clear glimpse of Caliban, a mutant portrayed by actor Stephen Merchant. Although he was shown in the previous trailers, this is the first time that fans would see his face. While it's still unclear to what extent Caliban's role is in "Logan," CinemaBlend reported that it is likely that he's forming an alliance with Logan, Professor X and Laura/X-23 since the latter three are in need of his ability to locate other mutants.

It appears that Logan and Professor X are taking Laura under their wing, but only temporarily as they seek out a sort of safe haven where mutants are still thriving. The only glitch to this plan, however, is that Caliban in X-Men lore isn't exactly known to be the trustworthy.

"Logan" is set in a "slight different universe" compared to what we've seen in the past "X-Men" movies. In an interview with Digital Spy, Jackman reveals, "Not only is it different in terms of timeline and tone, it's a slightly different universe. It's actually a different paradigm and that will become clear."

For the most part, fans will see a different kind of Wolverine. Gone is his usual feistiness as his healing powers deteriorate and he succumbs to the ageing process.

"Logan" will premiere in theaters March 1.
