Fans could be looking at more space-faring adventures as Marvel Cinematic Universe enters its Phase 3. Following "Doctor Strange" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," most of the action in the MCU's upcoming films will take place outside of Earth. With that said, it has been revealed that "Thor: Ragnarok" will feature more intergalactic worlds.
Speaking with CinemaBlend, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige revealed that the upcoming movies will show an equal balance between scenes in space and the Earth. The transition will begin particularly with "Thor: Ragnarok."
"There are three scenes on Earth in 'Thor: Ragnarok,'" Feige said. "Everything else is Asgard and - not all of these worlds but - worlds that certainly... let's put it this way, in Thor lingo, it's beyond the nine realms. He added that the movie will visit other planets that would remind people of "Guardians of the Galaxy," when they really are just other worlds in the Marvel universe.
Bringing Thor back to space makes sense for the movie, especially since a plot point in "Thor: Ragnarok" was based on the "Planet Hulk" arc from the comic books.
According to the official "Thor: Ragnarok" synopsis released by The Hollywood Reporter, Thor finds himself imprisoned on the otherside of the universe without his might Mjolnir. He must return to Asgard to stop Ragnarok-which spells the end of Asgardian civilization-that will be orchestrated by Hela. However, he must first "survive a gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avengers-the Incredible Hulk!"
When fans see Mark Ruffalo return on screen as Bruce Banner/Hulk, the character will be decked out in gladiator armor and armed with a giant battle ax.
"Thor: Ragnarok" stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston and Cate Blanchett. "Thor: Ragnarok" will premiere in cinemas Oct. 27, 2017.
