The overarching plot within the #itsallconnected tag of Marvel Cinematic universe has been the search for the Infinity Stones.
The Space Stone contained in the Tesseract has been featured in "Iron Man 2" and was fleshed out in "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "The Avengers." The Reality Stone was seen in "Thor: The Dark World" and was last seen in "Guardians of the Galaxy" under the custody of The Collector. The Mind Stone that was originally housed in Loki's Scepter is now embedded in the forehead of Vision. The Power Stone is seen in "Guardians of the Galaxy" is now under the Nova Corps' secure safe. Recently, the Time Stone has been prominently featured in the Eye of Agamoto in "Doctor Strange." This leaves the Soul Stone as the only Infinity gem that has to make its debut.
With a pipeline of other films in store before "Avengers: Infinity War," here are some theories on where the Soul Stone could be found:
1. "Thor: Ragnarok" - The next installment of "Thor" will introduce new cosmic characters in the fold. This will include Cate Blanchett's Hela, Valkyrie and also a few Space Gladiators.
Hela is the Argardian Goddess of Death. Therefore, the Soul Stone could be a perfect fit for Hela because it possesses power over life and death. Rumors are also flying that the ultimate space adventure team up between Thor and The Hulk will actually be a desperation search party for the Soul gem, Screen Rant reported. The task may prove to be hard as they may need the help of a Valkyrie in battling a few Space Gladiators while conducting the search.
2. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" - While it has been reported that the latest installment of the franchise will not categorically feature an Infinity Stone, it is still entirely possible that the gem could subtly appear in the film, Comic Book reported.
One infamous character who is more connected to the "Guardians" is Adam Warlock. Although the character has yet to make his debut, it is entirely possible that he will be introduced sooner. In the comic books, Warlock had the Soul gem to send Pip the Troll's soul to a heaven-like dimension.
3. "Avengers: Infinity War" - Of course it is also entirely possible that that mad hunt for the soul gem could stretch until the release of the third "Avengers" film.
It is possible that the Soul gem is already in the hands of Thanos and that might play an important role on why the mad titan wants to destroy the universe. It is also possible that the gem could set the stage for Phase 4 of the MCU and the rise of Brie Larson's Captain Marvel.
