It was an emotional day for the cast and crew of "The Vampire Diaries" as the show embarks on the final few days of filming for the eighth season. For actor Zach Roerig, who plays Matt Donovan on the show, had it harder than most especially because he came to set not knowing it was going to be his last day of filming.
"My schedule actually changed at the last minute," Roerig tells TVLine. "When the producers told me I'd be wrapping up, I was like, 'Oh... Wow.'" He adds that a lot of emotions running around on the set and "definitely a lot of tears."
In the final four episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, Matt emerges as a hero and is playing an integral role in "saving everyone in Mystic Falls." And even though he's going to take part in the action, Roerig assures fans that his character is going to end up okay.
One of the highly anticipated events in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is the return of Matt's best friend, Elena Gilbert, to be played by Nina Dobrev. Executive producer Kevin Williamson confirmed that Dobrev has filmed her scenes for the final season.
The latest promo for the next episode suggests that Kai is back in Mystic Falls and might be the one to bring back Elena from the dead. Fans would recall that it was Kai who put cast the sleeping curse on Elena. There are speculations that he may free Elena from the spell, but only if Damon can do something for him in exchange.
Meanwhile, Dobrev has shot her final scene for the show. In a heartfelt message, the 28-year-old actress thanks fans for their undying love and support. She also teases that she believes fans will be happy with how the show ends. As per The Daily Mail, Dobrev's last episode as Elena will air on March 10.
