Starship X released their latest ballad, "Rain," a collaboration between SISTAR's Soyou and EXO's Baekhyun on Feb. 14 at midnight KST.
"Rain" talks about the nostalgia of reminiscing past loves as they recall their intimate moments under the falling rain. The MV features a high school girl reminiscing on a rainy day, Billboard reported. It has already reached 1M views in just a day within release.
The song is produced by Phat Music, who has also contributed music to other idol groups like GFriend. Interestingly, Soyou and Baekhyun sing alternately in isolation for the majority of the song before they come together in the chorus.
Soyou is known for her chart-topping duets, such as 2014's super hit "Some," featuring Jungigo, while Baekhyun has been known for his duet last year with Suzy, "Dream." As expected from the two hitmakers, "Rain" immediately topped the digital music charts within a day of its release, Allkpop reported. It reached #1 in real time on all eight charts-MelOn, Bugs, Mnet, olleh, Naver, Monkey3, Genie and Soribada.
The two idols immediately relayed their thanks on the all-kill achievement of "Rain," Soompi reported. Baekhyun expressed his gratefulness for having been able to work with Soyou, while the latter praised his vocals and hoped that they could work together again in the future.
"Rain" is just the latest release in a string of duets from Starship Entertainment this year. Prior to Soyou and Baekhyun's collaboration, there was also Mad Clown's "Lost Without You," featuring indie duo Bolbbalgan4 that was released earlier this month. This is in addition to the label's ongoing indie remake project, "Vintage Box," which features duets with various Starship acts such as Jungigo, Dasom and K.Will.
