"Logan" sets to be one of the best movies to date in the X-Men superhero franchise and the swansong for Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine. But even though Jackman is resting his claws, Patrick Stewart is not ready to give up yet on his popular character in the franchise.
First and Last for the X-Men Franchise
"Logan" is expected to be the first and last in some way for the popular movie series. The movie will be their first hard R-Rating film but (barring some rumors) could be the last Jackman film as Wolverine. With these two expectations, the expectations of the film are on its fever pitch as everyone sets to say goodbye to the Australian actor in his iconic character.
But even though Jackman is leaving his character, his co-star in the upcoming film is not ready to hang-up his mantle for now. According to Entertainment Tonight, Stewart plays an old and ailing Charles Xavier or Professor X in the film but he's not ready to give up the character yet. The 76-year old star said, "Hugh has raised the flag that says goodbye. I haven't done that yet."
Best X-Men Movie to Date
If there's any consolation for fans who wanted to Jackman to continue his role as the clawed superhero is the fact that the film is already gathering really impressive reviews movie experts. The Verge reviews the film as "bleak, uncompromising, and completely mesmerizing." IGN also scored the upcoming movie with 9.7/10 noting that the film is finally taking full advantage of the character's razor-sharp claws to full effect set in an R-Rated film.
"Logan" is a loose adaptation of the comic book "Old Man Logan" featuring two powerful mutants losing the fight to old age and disease. The film premieres worldwide on March 2.
