"The Good Fight," the spinoff of acclaimed legal drama "The Good Wife," finally made its series debut Sunday night on CBS. And just like the original series, the new show was able to live up to fans and critics' expectations. While Diane Lockhart and Lucca Quinn are now the core characters of this story, Alicia Florrick's presence was still felt -- making fans wonder if there's a possibility that Julianna Marguiles would show up in the future to reprise the role.
In an interview with Deadline, the Good Fight co-creators Robert and Michelle King addressed this burning question.
"We discussed with Julianna the idea of visiting, but we all agreed: no matter what we did, that would then become the true end to the Good Wife story, and that's unfortunate," the Kings explained.
While the Kings did not confirm anything, it seems that Alicia is still welcome to pay a visit to Diane and Lucca's new world. But given how things between her and Diane ended up in the finale, Alicia's potential return on "The Good Fight" may certainly bring up tension brought by old issues in the past.
Speaking about old issues, the Kings also promised that some loose ends will somehow get resolved in the spinoff, including Diane's memorable slap on Alicia's face on The Good Wife's series finale and Kurt's extra-marital affair.
They added: "Will she forgive her estranged husband, Kurt McVeigh? Has it made Diane more jaded, more suspicious?"
By sticking to its politically-driven storyline, The Good Fight's premiere episode delivered an okay performance for CBS. Per TV Line, the first episode was watched by a total of 7.2 million viewers with a 0.7 in ratings.
Starring Christine Baranski ad Cush Jumbo, "The Good Fight" will return with an all new episode next Sunday on CBS' streaming platform, CBS All Access. Details on the third episode of the series are yet to be released.
Rose Leslie, Delroy Lindo, Erica Tazel, Sarah Steele and Justin Bartha also star.
