Boston Celtics have been in an intermittent discussion with LA Clippers about trade for Blake Griffins a few weeks ago. However, such trade most probably to happen.
The intermittent discussion between Celtics and Clippers was first reported by ESPN. As Griffin will be a free agent after the 2016-17 season ends this summer, Celtics contacted Clippers to get permission to talk to Griffin about his preferred options.
However, Griffin has not made any official comment about his choice. He currently has a great chemistry in Los Angeles with DeAndre Jordan in the front court with the support from Chris Paul. For the trade to happens, Clippers definitely want to get the equally valuable player from Celtics in exchange, such as Al Horford or the future draft picks.
However, Boston Celtics is protective to keep its draft picks, and will not want to use them as the bargaining chip. Moreover, Griffin will push for the bigger deal from Celtics according to enter the free-agency, it may not be feasible for Celtics to trade, according to Bleacher Report.
Furthermore, the 6’10” forward has an history of knee problem which hinder him to deliver his best performance. This season, his troubled knee recurred and made him being sidelined for as many as 20 games. He also had to undergo knee surgery last December.
During his first year in the NBA, he injured his left knee after a slam dunk in the Summer League game. He was first diagnosed with stress fracture which made him missing the first seven weeks of the 2009-10 season.
After seven weeks, doctors had found the stress fracture was actually a broken knee cap. Therefore, he had to undergo surgery that made him missing the entire 2009-10 season.
