Cleveland Cavaliers signed the seven-year NBA veteran Derrick Williams for the rest of the season. He will strengthen the defensive end of the Cavaliers with his tenacity and toughness.
Williams will sign his third contract with the Cavaliers, Bleacher Report has learned. He first signed his 10-day contract with the Cavaliers on Feb. 9 after he was waived by Miami Heat, followed by his second 10-day contract on Feb. 22
The former 2012 All-Rookie Team has delivered a solid performance off the bench for Cavaliers. He averages 10.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 24.9 minutes average playing time for 10 games with the Cavaliers. His presence has given sufficient depths in the Cavs rosters.
His short 20 days with Cavaliers showed that he played above his career average, Cleveland reported. He made 57.1 percent of his shooting, compared to his career average of 43.3 percent. His perimeter shooting and three-pointers are really impressive with 73.9 and 36.8 percent respectively, much higher than his career average of 48.4 and 28.5 percent.
The 6’8” forward shows that he really fits in with the entire Cavaliers organization. The fast pace game play from head coach Tyronn Lue is the one that he plays very well. He also plays very well in a fast break situation and his speed in sprinting has given a new perspective in the Cavaliers offensive.
LeBron James commented about Williams’ tendency to finish the offense by sprinting and received an alley-oop pass with a thunderous dunk as a common nature for players from the West Coast. James said, "He's a West Coast guy, and all West Coast guys like to run."
