Green Bay Packers and two other teams are reported to be interested to get running back Adrian Peterson. The 32-year-old player become free agent when Minnesota Vikings decided not to extend his contract.
New York Giants and Oakland Raiders are the other teams that show interest to sign Peterson. However, none of the team offer a contract yet. Peterson as reported by USA Today looks for a maximum contract of $8 million to play in 2017 season. His determination to get the amount of contract makes those team to get hesitated, thus making his future to become more uncertain.
According to ESPN, his asking price is too high for a veteran player who is currently over the hill. Peterson has passed his prime time when he won the NFL Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in 2012. The $8 million of his asking price would make him as one of the highest paying player in 2017.
Peterson previously asked for $18 million to Minnesota Vikings to extend his contract in 2017. Vikings is reluctant to award him the contract, even though Peterson has been with the Vikings for 10 years. The Vikings management later decided to waive him and signing Latavius Murray. Until now the seven times Pro-Bowl player is still in the open market.
Furthermore, the Giants also showed its interest to sign Peterson has diminished. New York Giants signed Shaun Draughn for filling its running back position. It seems the opportunity for Peterson to get a new slowly fades away, unless he lower his asking price.
The 10-year veteran in the league was drafted by Minnesota Vikings in 2007 NFL Draft as the 7th pick. He was known to be a rare combination of a running back. He possesed speed, agility and vision to make a rushing. However, after 10 years, his speed and agility has diminished as the younger and faster players come to the league, but he still asked for the high price.
