Kim Hyun Joong's DUI case is now on the hands of the prosecutors for legal proceedings.
On March 26, the "Boys over Flowers" actor was caught driving under the influence of alcohol when another driver reported his parked car in the middle of the road at 2 in the morning.
Apparently, Kim Hyun Joong fell asleep while waiting for the traffic light to show green. Upon checking, authorities found out that the actor's blood alcohol level was at 0.075 percent, forcing them to suspend his driver's license as cited by Allkpop.
Shortly after the news came out, his agency, KeyEast Entertainment, said their artist was only compelled to drive after an attendant requested him to park his car elsewhere.
"He hadn't slept for a few days to practice for his concert, and while he didn't even drive 1 kilometer, he was asked to submit to a blood alcohol test and had his driver's license suspended," the label said as per Soompi.
However, it was later learned that the actor actually drove almost 3 kilometers before he got stuck at the traffic light. CCTV footage retrieved from the area also showed Kim Hyun Joong stayed at the same post of about 15 minutes before the authorities arrived.
Contrary to initial statement released by KeyEast Entertainment, a news outlet confirmed the "Boys over Flowers" star was on his way home when he was caught drunk driving.
Hence, the agency issue a follow-up statement to clear things out that they are not protecting their artist from his wrongdoings. KeyEast Entertainment added that they only relayed the information provided to them.
The label also promised to prevent the same thing from happening again in the future. Also, it stated the Kim Hyun Joong admitted his mistake and is currently reflecting on the controversy.
The DUI case came two weeks after the actor completed his military service. Despite the recent issue, Kim Hyun Joong will continued his scheduled fan meeting show on April 29 at the Olympic Park.
