Suga has been open about his depression for years now. In fact, the BTS member has confessed about his battle in most of the songs he wrote for the group and for himself.
According to Koreaboo, the idol talked about mental health issues on his latest mixtape "Agust D" that was released last year. In one of his songs, Suga admitted he sought the help of a professional in the midst of this struggle with depression.
"The mixtape was everything I wanted to do with hip-hop as a foundation. There were bold lyrics that made people go "Huh? Did he say this?" and "Is it okay for him to write such lyrics?" Anyways, I was relieved to tell all the stories [that were] in my heart," he said.
Suga confessed the very reason for his depression was his large frame which compelled him to go through vigorous exercising. However, the idol was asked to stop working out when he attained shoulder injury which only added to his anxiety.
Although he knew the reasons for his depression, the BTS member also blamed the media for setting a standard of beauty.
"The press is raising issues with the standard of beauty as how thin someone is. On the other side of the world, however, there are those who die from starvation," Suga said.
The idol added he would definitely talk about these issues if ever he becomes influential. Although he is well aware of the effects of depression, Suga recently said he plans to start another diet despite being underweight, causing his fans to worry about him.
"I'm actually underweight than average but I have to take care of myself since I have to show on the screen for my job," he told the fans through Naver.
Suga is not the only idol who is suffering from depression. More and more idols have been opening up about their fight against anxiety brought about by fame and status.
