Popular South Korean actor Lee Joon-Gi is expected to make waves in China with his upcoming romantic melodrama film, titled Never Said Goodbye - Under the Sicily Sun.
The upcoming film, which he stars in alongside Chinese actress Zhou Dongyu will premiere in Chinese Mainland theaters just in time for China's Valentine's Day, the Qixi Festival, on Aug. 9, 2016.
Never Said Goodbye - Under the Sicily Sun is set in Sicily, Italy, and Shanghai, China. The film follows the story of a young Korean man and a Chinese woman, who fall in love despite their cultural differences.
Although this is Lee's first dip into the Chinese movie market, he is already known to several Chinese fans due to the movie King and The Clown, South Korea's sixth highest grossing film.
According to Lee, the joint production of Never Said Goodbye - Under the Sicily Sun made him learn a lot about photography and acting. "The director showed me a lot of (cultural) things ... It helped me get used to a new working environment and the Chinese style of filmmaking," he said.
Meanwhile, the director of Never Said Goodbye - Under the Sicily Sun in Taiwan, Lin Yu-hsien, proudly spoke about the film and said that the international crew who worked on it was comprised of professionals from South Korea, Malaysia, and Italy, thus making the film "universal."
"Romance is an ever-green theme for the big screen, and it is also the easiest way to touch audiences," Lin said.
Lee was in Beijing, China on Tuesday, June 7 to promote the upcoming movie.
