YMC Entertainment has unveiled the names of I.O.I.'s first unit on Friday, June 10, according to Soompi.
According to the talent agency, the unit will be composed of seven members, namely, Kim Doyeon, Kim Sohye, Kim Chungha, Lim Nayoung, Jeon Somi, Zhou Jieqiong, and Choi Yoojung. The group will start the second leg promotions of their Dream Girls album, International Business Times reported.
"I.O.I. has finished their first album promotions with their performance at Dream Concert on June 4. We are preparing for their second promotions through a unit group," YMC Entertainment said in an official note. "The members are currently working very hard to show a new image."
Meanwhile, the entertainment agency revealed that "As for the members who are not in the unit group, Kim Sejeong, Kang Mina and Jung Chaeyeon, will return to their agencies and promote as members of their groups that they have prepared a long time for."
On Tuesday, June 7, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that Kim Sejeong and Kang Mina will be debuting in a new girl group since they have already accomplished their debut promotions in the temporary female group I.O.I.
"Kim Sejeong and Kang Mina would join their fellow trainees, who have trained together for many years toward one dream, in order that they get one step closer to that dream," Jellyfish Entertainment stated.
Regarding Yoo Yeonjung, Starship Entertainment said that the singer "needs more practice in areas besides singing. She will return with an improved image after returning to her agency and practicing more."
YMC Entertainment admitted they "were not 100 percent satisfied" with I.O.I's first leg of Dream Girls' promotions. The agency has vowed to "prepare this time to please the fans even more."
