Indian actor Ranveer Singh and his actress girlfriend, Deepika Padukone bagged best actor and best actress trophy respectively at International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) 2016, informally known as Bollywood's Oscar.
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh took home the Best Actor (Male) award at IIFA 2016 for his portrayal of Marathi warrior Bajirao in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani movie while his girlfriend Deepika Padukone was adjudged Best Actor (Female) for Shoojit Sircar's Piku movie. The awards ceremony was held in Madrid, Spain on Saturday.
"I want to dedicate this award to everyone who works behind the scenes. Actors walk away with the credit, directors walk away with the credit, the producer walks away with the credit ... so, this one is really for writer Juhi [Chaturvedi] and the amazing people who make our performances worthwhile. This is for every technician out there," Deepika Padukone said at the award ceremony.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who won the Best Director for Bajirao Mastani, was overwhelmed with the appreciation he received for the movie. "I am quite overwhelmed by all of this. I don't want to thank anyone for this film. I think thank you is just not enough for this film," he said.
Salman Khan' Bajrangi Bhaijan was adjudged Best Film at 17th IIFA Awards. Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra won the Best Actor in Supporting Role award in the male and female categories for their performances in Dil Dhadakne Do and Bajirao Mastani respectively.
