Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman said that Tom Holland's version of Spider Man is the best he has seen so far. Now that the franchise has been moved to Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has strong hopes that it could revive the show, and that the actor could succeed in making it among the best Marvel films.
"Spider Man: Homecoming" is a metaphor that meant finally, Marvel has its hold on the character that should have belonged to them in the first place. Cinema Blend reported that Marvel has finally reverted to having an actor that fits the profile of a high-school aged kid. At one point, he is trying to figure out how to become a superhero, while at the same time struggling to get home in time just to finish his physics homework. Rothman thinks that Holland would be reminiscent to the cartoon version of the webbed hero.

Aside from the metaphor of the character returning to his origin, "Spider Man: Homecoming" also takes its title literally. News via Movie Pilot reveals a photo of Peter Parker seemingly nervous for his homecoming dance.

Rothman believes that it was a good choice to hand over the franchise to Marvel. He believes that Sony and Marvel working together may not be the first and last time. He has high expectations that both companies would work towards the success of "Spider Man: Homecoming."
