"Saw" fans have been waiting on the announcement of the film's 8th movie, and now, the production team hears their plea as they start filming this year.
According to HNGN, "Saw 8" will begin shooting on Sept.12 and will eventually wrap up sometime October 2016. The eighth instalment of the movie franchise will be produced by Dan Heffner and Oren Kroules, the same loyal producers of the previous Saw movies.
Lionsgate released the first "Saw" movie in 2004, and since then, the horror movie series has grown a sizable fan base that has kept the franchise successful for the last 12 years. The last movie, "Saw 7," came out way back in 2010, and for the last 6 years, "Saw" fans have been eagerly waiting for the movie's return on the big screen.
According to Parent Herald, the movie franchise is the "Most Successful Horror Franchise" of the Guinness Book of World Records, grossing more than $800 million from the last 7 films. The movie portrays the morbid and psychologically torturing acts of a serial killer named Jigsaw.
According to the same publication, while the original director James Wan can't direct the newest movie installment, acclaimed directors Michael and Peter Spierig will take on directing the new movie. The two were responsible for the movies "Undead," "Daybreakers" and "Predestination."
Meanwhile, Lionsgate also revealed that "Saw's" original writer Leigh Whannell will be helping out as an executive producer in "Saw: Legacy." It is said that the change in participation could be due to the fact that both Wan and Whannell have had their plates full of movie projects recently. Wan has just finished directing the successful horror film "The Conjuring 2" and is now gearing up to film Marvel's "Aquaman," while Whannell is busy writing "Insidious 4," which is slated to be released on Oct. 20, 2017.
"Saw: Legacy" is set to premiere on Oct. 27, 2017, just in time for Halloween.
