President of Sony Worldwide Distribution, Rory Bruer, confirmed that there will be a sequel for "Ghostbusters," and the only question that fans should be asking is when it will be released. He also announced that they were planning a lot of big things for the brand, while the logo for Ghost Corps that appeared during the opening credit of the film was meant to kick-start their plans.

Bruer told The Wrap that he expects "Ghostbusters" to become a leading franchise and an important brand. He believed that the mixed reviews received by the film only meant that there exist areas for improvements and opportunities.

"Ghostbusters" garnered an estimate of $46 million, and only came in second to "Secret Life of Pets" during its first weekend. Although it has gained favorable reviews in Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 73 percent, it weighed a 60 Metacritic score. Cinema Blend reported that the film has still a lot of ground to cover before the producers can say it is a box office success. It still has not made up for the actual cost of the film, which amounted to $144 million, but Bruer was willing to take risks because he believed in the brand's potential.

"Ghosbusters" is considered to be the biggest film collaboration between director McCarthy and Feig. They featured the logo of Sony's new subsidiary, Ghost Corp, during the opening credit of the film, which is said to be headed by the original "Ghostbusters" directors, Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd. This means that the team has already forecasted future possibilities for the franchise and is currently establishing long-term plans for its success.
