Romance drama "W" is still on the number one spot after it garnered the highest ratings among Wednesday-Thursday lineup of Korean dramas. The MBC series has been topping the list after broadcasting its third episode, outshining KBS drama "Uncontrollably Fond."
After airing its fifth episode on Aug. 3, the ratings of "W" increased from 12.9 percent to 13.5 percent, Soompi noted. On the other hand, the MBC series was followed by "Uncontrollably Fond" with 8.2 percent ratings and SBS drama "Wanted" with 5.2 percent ratings. The recent figures were released by company research Nielsen Korea.
Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo's "W" had a good start with 8.6 percent ratings for the drama's first episode. Since then, the ratings of the MBC series has continued to increase as it seems that "W" has won the hearts of K-drama fanatics with its unique storyline, Allkpop reported.
Lee's character came to life and was able to meet his writer personally in the recent episode of "W." According to reports, the romance drama has been receiving praises for its commendable graphics as some characters have to transform from being webtoon characters to real-life human beings.
Aside from that, viewers also love the on-screen chemistry of Lee and Han, not to mention the MBC series incorporated humor and drama in its storyline. "W" started on July 20 and is scheduled to air its final episode on September 20.
According to the head MBC's drama department, the team instantly approved the proposal upon reading the first script written by Song Jae Sung. "Choosing a drama based on the script alone is unusual, but 'W' was a very new, interesting, solid production," Park Sung Soo said.
Park added he is confident the theme of "W" is suitable for the current generation.
