"Once Upon A Time" will feature the return of David Anders on Season 6. The "iZombie" actor will reprise his role as Dr. Whale aka Victor Frankenstein in one episode of the fantasy series. Meanwhile, showrunner Eddy Kitsis has previewed that the new season is going to focus more on telling small-town stories.
The casting of Anders comes after the show's revelation that it will feature Aladdin's story in Season 6. Anders' character last appeared on "Once Upon A Time" Season 5 as he helped in the delivery of Zelena's baby. Moving forward, it seems that Dr. Whale will return to be a part of Jekyll and Hide's storyline.
"If you're going to have Jekyll [Hank Harris] and Hyde [Sam Witwer], there has to be a mad scientist convention," executive producer Eddy Kitsis told Entertainment Weekly.
"Let's just say mad scientists stick together," added co-showrunner Adam Horowitz.
After dealing with Hades last season, "Once Upon A Time" is going to focus more on telling small-town stories in Season 6. In a report from Deadline, Kitsis previewed how the new season will differ from the past - saying that they are "going back to that Season 1 mentality."
"We're planning a 22-episode story, as opposed to just kind of breaking it up into two parts," the showrunner said.
Anders join previously cast Oded Fehr (Covert Affairs) and Deniz Akdeniz (Graceland) on "Once Upon A Time" Season 6. The duo has been cast to play Jafar and Aladdin, respectively. Also appearing in the new season is Giles Matthey as Morpheus and Craig Horner as the Count of Monte Cristo.
"Once Upon A Time" Season 6 premieres on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8PM on ABC.
