George R.R. Martin will continue his television run with a new TV series. All "Game of Thrones" fans, who were unhappy with the impending end of the fantasy series, need not lose hope.

The rights of the author's anthology series "Wild Cards" has been acquired by Universal Cable Productions (UCP). Breaking the news with an announcement, Martin said on his personal blog that the series has been picked for development; however, he would not be working on the project because of his special development agreement with HBO.

However, Martin's touch would be visible in the form of his assistant editor Gregory Noveck and Melinda Snodgrass, who are the executive producers of the proposed show. The author has also expressed hope that his assistants and UCP would be able to do justice to the series. He wrote on his blog that there are thousands of stories to be told in the world of "Wild Cards" and he hopes that the trio would be able to tell them all to the audience.

Martin also revealed that "Wild Cards" is a not just series of graphic novels, games, and books; rather, it is more like a universe. He compared it to the likes of Marvel and DC and further stated that the series will have a huge cast of small and big characters.

The first volume of "Wild Cards" was published in 1986, and till date, the series has seen twenty-two publications under different authors, Entertainment Weekly reported. "High Stakes," a part of the series, is all set to be released later this month and three more volumes are in the development process.

Well, the news is certainly exciting for Martin's fans. After seeing the vast and fascinating world of Westeros on "Game of Thrones," one can definitely be sure that this new TV series will be another magical work. Martin hopes to see the series hitting the screens in a year or two.
