Korean singer Sandara Park, in her recent appearance on talk show "Abnormal Summit," talked about her life in the Philippines before she decided to move back to South Korea to become a trainee of YG Entertainment.
Before she debuted with girl group 2NE1, Park was popular among Filipinos after she won as a runner-up for "Star Circle Quest" in 2004. The Korean singer made a music video as her audition piece for the talent show, and when she was asked by one of the jurors why she would like to become an actress, Park answered: "I want to be popular and I want to have fans."
Since then, Park became an instant star in the Philippines and was given her own show called "Sandara's Romance." Her self-titled debut album also reached platinum, making her the first Korean-born to be certified with a platinum album.
According to Park, she stayed in the Philippines all throughout her adolescence. "I started [my career] there and was active as a celebrity but gave it all up so that I could be a trainee at YG," she said, as quoted by Soompi. When asked about her popularity in the country, the 2NE1 member said, "I wasn't just popular, I caused a syndrome," referring to the "Sandara wave" syndrome she has caused in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Park is confirmed to make a comeback in the Philippine TV as one of the judges of a show called "Pinoy Boyband Superstar," MB reported. The 2NE1 member will join comedian Vice Ganda and singer Yeng Constantino for the reality show.
The 31-year-old Korean singer reportedly arrived in the Philippines over the weekend from a series of events in Vietnam. Park updated her Instagram account with a photo of her arriving at the airport and bumping into actor John Llyod Cruz and another photo of herself gushing over her billboard along the street.
