The upcoming Marvel superhero film "Spider-Man: Homecoming" will feature Phineas Mason aka The Tinkerer, a villain to be brought to life by actor Michael Chernus.
According to Deadline, the 39-year-old actor has joined the reboot of the "Spider-Man" franchise, with Tom Holland portraying Peter Parker aka the web-slinging superhero for the first time. Chernus is also known for his role as Cal Chapman in "Orange Is The New Black" and he was part of "The Bourne Legacy," "Aloha," and a number of other films.
The Tinkerer is known in the comics as a genius, particularly in engineering, and he can invent gadgets from nothing more than scraps and household items. As a bad guy, he designs sophisticated suits and weaponry for villains, and The Independent says he will undubtedly be working with the yet-unconfirmed character to be portrayed by Michael Keaton ("Spotlight," "My Life," "The Paper").
CinemaBlend, meanwhile, says that Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture will be another bad guy in "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Some are speculating that this will be the character Keaton will be taking on. Also, Bokeem Woodbine ("Fargo") is rumored to play as Herman Shultz aka The Shocker and Logan Marshall Green ("Prometheus") might also be a baddie in the film.
The movie will also star Zendaya as Parker's classmate Michelle, Jacob Batalon as Parker's best friend Ned Leeds, Marissa Tomei as his aunt May Parker, Laura Harrier as his love interest Liz Allan, and Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
