Jona Xiao joins the cast of Sony-Marvel's "Spider-Man: Homecoming" opposite Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, and Michael Keaton. "Vacation helmers" John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein wrote the script.
Xiao has recently signed onto the upcoming film "Spider-Man: Homecoming." According to Variety, the details of the plot are still guarded as is Xiao's character. Both Sony and Marvel Studios are being tight-lipped about the actress' involvement. Holland is playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Tomei will play as the teen's Aunt May. Keaton is on board for the role of a villain. Jon Watts is the director. Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige are the producers.
The production of "Spider-Man: Homecoming" already began over the summer. Shooting continues in Atlanta, Georgia. Other actors who have joined the cast include Hannibal Buress, Logan Marshall-Green, Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine, and Tony Revolori as well as Zendaya Coleman, which is recently rumored to play the role as Mary Jane Watson.
For those who are not aware, Xiao is a Chinese-born actress but grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where she developed her interests in acting, as Comicbook reported. During her high school years, she was an Academica All-American and All-State lacrosse player. She can be seen recurring her role as Julie Yang on the third season of AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire" TV series.
Xiao is also playing the role as Stacey Chung in Fox's "Keeping Up with the Joneses," which will be coming soon in theaters on October 19. She just finished filming as Lijuan in Fox Searchlight Pictures' "Gifted" with Chris Evans and Jenny Slate. This drama will be aired on April 12, 2017 in the United States.
Xiao is represented by Pantheon Talent and Industry Entertainment. She also appeared in projects such as "Trophy Wife" in 2013, "Bones" in 2013, and "Rizzoli & Isles" in 2014.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is set to release in theaters on July 7, 2017.
