"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen said that Season 4 will explore the coping mechanism of the characters from the events of Season 3.
In the official synopsis for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" Season 4, the series picks up 6 months after the conclusion of Season 3 and the passing of the Sokovia Accords in "Captain America: Civil War." S.H.I.E.L.D is no longer a shadow organization, it is now back in public consciousness as a legitimate public organization. Its once revered agent, Daisy Johnson a.k.a Quake (Chloe Bennet) is now on the run and the organization has a new director.
Tancharoen said that given the traumatic things that happened to the team in the previous season, the show will explore its character's psyche in the new season, Entertainment Weekly.
""The one thing that you'll really see across the board with all of our characters is that they're just in 'Let's move mode - let's just move on from what went down. Whether or not that's just a coping mechanism or denial of all of the trauma that they've experienced, I think them being so functional will start to unravel."
Talking about her character, Bennet said that in Season 4, Daisy is still reeling from the events of Season 3 and her isolation is her way of taking care of the people she cares about, Hypable reported.
"She's been through so much that she feels like she is protecting them but kind of pushing them away, because she feels like everything bad happens around her, and she can't help but cause the problems," she said.
