Pre-registration for the 5th Manga Translation Battle contest is now open, so those who can translate manga and want the chance to win great prizes may sign up now before the official registration begins. The winner can win a free trip to Japan plus the chance to become a professional translator.
Hosted by My Anime List, the contest is managed by MANGAPOLO, the manga-sharing YouTube channel by Dentsu, and is presented by the Digital Comic Association and supported by the Japanese government's Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Anyone apart from professional translators can join regardless of age, nationality, or location. Multiple entries are allowed although they can only win one prize. Joining is simple and free.
All one has to do is apply and translate one of three manga: "Zutto Dokushin de Iru Tsumori" by Mari Okazaki; "Haruwa Akebono Tsukimo Nau Soramo Nao" by Machio Same; or "The Right Way to Make Jump!" by Takeshi Sakurai. The translation needs to be the original work of the contestant and done by them only.
Next, initial screening will be done. Professional translators will review the submissions and choose the finalists. After that, the judging committee, composed of Debora Aoki, Matt Alt, Tomoko Kimura, and William Flanagan, will choose the winning entries from the finalists and then, the winner will be decided.
The translations submitted by the finalists will be posted on the official Manga Translation Battle website, and the final selection will take place from January to early February next year. The winners may get a job offer to work on a manga series and the opportunity to debut as a professional translator. The Grand Prize winner will also receive a free trip to Japan for the awarding ceremony and a MacBook Air. The winner of the Individual Work Prize/Student Award will get an Apple Watch.
According to Anime News Network, those interested in joining the Manga Translation Battle Vol. 5 can now pre-register, and they will be notified on Sept. 14 regarding the official registration.
