Announced at the 2016 IFA conference in Berlin, the Acer Swift 7 laptop boasts a very thin build of just 0.39-inch. Despite its extremely thin form factor, the Swift 7 packs enough hardware firepower that some tech experts are billing it as an interesting contender to Apple's laptops.
The Acer Swift 7 is slated to become the first ever laptop to be under one centimeter thick, according to Forbes. Until recently, the new generation of Apple MacBook held the title of the thinnest and lights laptop in circulation.
In order to build this very thin laptop, Acer has to cut on some corners as well. Acer sacrificed the laptop's processing power in order to make sure that it can pack everything into a small and thin space.
The Acer Swift 7 has a 13.3-inch display with Full HD resolution and protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass. Crammed into such a thin space in an Intel Core i5 Y series processor, 8GB of memory, Intel HD graphics, and a 256GB solid state drive. The laptop has two USB Type-C ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Swift 7 runs on Windows 10, according to PC Advisor.
Other built-in features include a webcam with High Dynamic Range that ensures clear, crisp, and colorful imaging. The laptops 802.11acd Wi-Fi adapter supports MU-MiMO technology that can deliver fast and reliable connection.
Aside from being extremely thin, the Acer Swift 7 is also lightweight weighing in at 1.1kg. The laptop's all-aluminum design combined with gold and grey coating adds a premium touch to its already impressive build.
Even more surprising about the Swift 7's specs is the laptops battery life, which Acer claims can last up to nine hours. Some speculated that in order to achieve this figure, users have to dim the display in order reduce battery consumption.
The Acer Swift 7 is expected to hit the market in October. The laptop is slated to be released first in North America with a $999 price tag.
