ABC announces its newest cast member for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," introducing Robbie Reyes as the new Ghost Rider. Promotional images have been released already featuring "True Detective" actor Gabriel Luna.

Entertainment Weekly reports that executive Jed Whedon stayed "true" to canon in comics, tackling on the family aspect and the fact Robbie Reyes grew up in a tough neighborhood in East L.A.  It would still be up to the show itself to show its viewers on how the character will be pulled off.

Another interview from The Hollywood Reporter states that "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is all about family, according to Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb. Even if it is a show about people with exceptional expertise in executing a mission, it's really about those who have no one else in their lives except for each other. Loeb states that Agent Coulson (played by Clark Gregg) is somewhat like a father figure to the agents, always looking out for them and giving them guidance.

The family aspect is very much evident in the new Ghost Rider's background. Robbie constantly tries to survive as much he can in the gang-ridden neighborhood of East L.A. as he looks after his developmentally disabled brother Gabe. His story is something that most viewers can relate to, dealing with the struggles of everyday life. Then something extraordinary happens to him, his transformation to the supernatural hero with the flaming skull, bearing this new burden and responsibility and how it will affect the rest of the cast in the show.

Jed Whedon also mentioned that the show is veering towards to the supernatural direction. Basing on the Thor's quote: "Magic is science that we don't understand," it would open up the possibility of explaining the power and appearance of Robbie Reyes's Ghost Rider.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will be premiering its fourth season on ABC on Sept. 20.
