"Tokyo Ghoul" ranks among the most popular manga/anime series for those who seriously follow the genre. It's a story about Ken Kaneki who tries to live a life as a Ghoul in a society that has varying levels of understanding about their existence. It recently ended its second season and followers of the series eagerly wait for the third season.
While the third season of the anime is yet to be released, an upcoming game based on the popular action/horror series is coming soon. Developed by Gamesamba, the game "Tokyo Ghoul: Dark War" will set the player in the world of Ken Kaneki along with its companions and the CCG. The mobile game is expected to be released in iOS and Android this year.
According to latest press release from Funimation, the game will feature three modes. The first mode is the traditional RPG where "the single player quest/story mode, which will take players on an episodic journey where they'll face an onslaught of human or ghoul foes in real-time action-RPG combat. Players will be able to control a party of characters, and unleash powerful special skills." The separate press release from Gamesamba describes the game "will focus on the conflict between humans and the CCG. By selecting a side, players will be able to help determine the path that the conflict takes."
The other two modes are PvP matches. Players can choose a character and play one-on-one online or they could be part of a bigger team (3v3 or 5v5) battle.
Game developer Gamesamba is not only working on "Tokyo Ghoul: Dark War." Listed on their official website are games soon to be released based on a very popular anime series "Attack on Titan." AoT is also in development and the game is expected to be released next year. They are also developing a game based on the anime "Fairy Tail" and the highly popular TV series "Star Trek."
Unfortunately, the exact release date has not been set yet. However, Gamesamba has set-up a dedicated site for the game where everyone can sign-up for email alerts for updates and invitation for beta testing.
