A teenager surprises crowd in Taiwan as he successfully blocks three point shot attempt from Stephen Curry. The two-time MVP is on tour in Asia with Under Armour.
In his last day of Asian Tour with Under Armour, Curry simulates a scrimmage situation during his Under Armour basketball camp in Taiwan. As he tries to make a winning 3-point shot, which he usually does for hundred of times, the 17-year old who guards him, blocks the shot.
The teenager is not just an ordinary player, Fox Sports reported. Gian Mamuyac is a member of the Philippines' U-18 national team and he is currently enrolled at Ateneo High School, a powerhouse basketball prep school in the Philippines.
With a true spotsmanship, Curry handled the block well. He jokingly asks for a do-over of the final moments of the game, which Mamuyac obliged, and this time, Curry made the shot. Later on, Curry is reported to invite him attending his basketball camp in the US.
Sportscaster from Philippines' ABS-CBN television network TJ Manotoc responded the rare event on his Twitter account. He posted a video and series of photos about the event. In his video caption he wrote, "OMG! Batang Gilas & former Blue Eaglet Gian Mamuyac @mamuinthesea just blocked @StephenCurry30 game winning three!"
Curry's visit in Taiwan marks his last day in Asia Tour with Under Armour as sponsor. The Golden State Warriors point guard also visited Shengyang, Guangzhou and Hong Kong before ending his trip in Taipei. Under Armour and Curry promotes his new signature basketball shoes, "Curry Two."
During his visit in Guangzhou, he confirmed rumor that he was not fully fit during the Game 7 of NBA Finals in an interview with ESPN. Prior to his confession, Warriors' head coach Steve Kerr had pointed out his condition several times.
After ending his Asia Tour, Curry heads back to US to prepare for the new NBA season. He and the Golden State Warriors will play against LA Clippers on Oct. 4 in Warrior's home court Oracle Arena.
