Fox hit drama "Empire" Season 3 will explore the Cookie and Lucious' first ordeal in a flashback with Mariah Carey starring as mega-superstar named Kitty.
In two weeks, "Empire" is set to hit the small screens and return to airwaves for Season 3. A preview for the new season featuring younger versions of Cookie and Lucious has been released with a quick look at Carey's Kitty.
Taraji P. Henson who plays Cookie in the present timeline said that the theme of Season 3 will be about light and dark. It is safe to assume that this theme is connected to the imminent flashback. The actress also hinted that Lucious (Terrence Howard) will go to a much darker place while Jamal (Jussie Smollet) be the light-bearer for the Lyon family.
Kitty is set to collaborate with Jamal on a new song called, "You always got a trick up your sleeve," Deadline reported. The character will reportedly help Jamal deal with the aftermath of being shot last season.
In an interview, Smollett said that Kitty will be sympathetic to his character.
"She's the one that sees everybody's always telling Jamal what to do. From Lucious to Cookie to the media to his fans. Kitty is a person who's a much bigger star than Jamal and she's there to kind of be like, 'Stop. He's human,'" Smollett told Entertainment Weekly.
Aside from Carey, Taye Diggs will also appear on "Empire" Season 3 as Cookie's new love interest and a rival to Lucious. Diggs will pay the role of a local politician Angelo Dubois who is not a criminal but is described to be someone who is similar to Lucious.
