Season 1 of "Stranger Things" have been well-received by critics with its unique 80's setting and storytelling. Now, the upcoming Season 2 is said to have more twists and turns, taking a darker approach in the series.

The characters Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) will be making their return but, this time, the Netflix original series will take them somewhere into a different journey and beyond the Upside Down.

The Duffer Brothers (Matt and Ross) already confirmed that actress Shannon Purser will not reprise her role in the series as Barb, as the character is considered long gone. Eleven (also known as El, played by actress Millie Bobby Brown), however, will be left as a "surprise" for the second season. According to Mirror, Brown is not even a 100 percent sure that the brothers will be bringing back her character in the series. Nonetheless, she assured fans that even without Eleven, the series will still be considered enjoyable and thrilling to watch.

The Netflix series was considered by many to be well thought out and conceptualized. Ross Duffer mentioned that he never expected the series to evolve into an anthology series, as stated by Entertainment Weekly.

Originally, the Duffer Brothers wanted to take the direction of "Stranger Things" into the 90's by the premiere of the second season. But, if that's the case, the series would have an entirely different set of cast for Will Byers, Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair and Eleven.

Although, all of that was changed and the series will instead be set a year after Eleven defeated the otherworldly creature and Will Byers' "rescue."

Other than the introduction of new characters, Season 2 will have a different feel from the first season, while still maintaining the essence of the original. Matt Duffer mentions basing that format on James Cameron's works such as "Terminator" and "Alien," drawing inspiration from them as well.

With series' characters leaving the town of Hawkins, "Stranger Things" Season 2 is anticipated to be released on 2017, taking viewers back into the dark world of the Upside Down to see what other dangers lurk within.
