Oct 12, 2016 10:36 PM EDT ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ casts ‘X-Men’ actress Lana Condor for live-action film By Cris Valencia

The film adaptation of Japanese Manga “Battle Angel Alita” tapped “X-Men” Lana Condor as one of its cast members. Condor will play the role of orphaned photojournalist Koyomi. In the manga version, the character is a prominent member of rebels known as Barjack, a group that fights the agents of a floating city called Tiphares, Screen Rant reported. Not much is known about the history of the character other than being adopted by Murdock, the leader of the Barjack. Throughout the story, she beings a friendship with the telekinetic son of Desty Nova named Kaos. Condor will join Rosa Salazar, Ed Skrein, Eiza Gonzales, Christoph Waltz and Jackie Earle Haley who will likely play Makaku. In one arc, Makaku was responsible for kidnapping Koyomi in order to get Alita. The upcoming film tells the story of Alita (to be played by Salazar), a cyborg who lost all memories except her training in Panzer Kunst, a deadly form of martial arts. She is rescued from a scrapyard by a doctor (to be played by Waltz) who took her in and rebuilt her. She eventually became a Hunter Warrior who tracks down and eliminates vicious criminals, Deadline reported. The story will trace her attempts to rediscover her past. Koyomi will likely interact with Anita because of her link to Kaos, whose father is the mastermind behind Anita’s enemies. Condor played Jubilee in “X-Men: Apocalypse” but her scenes were cut in the final edit. The Vietnam-American actress will also appear in the upcoming “Patriot’s Day.”
