'Pacific Rim 2' director Steven S. DeKnight hints new cast members

The long delayed and highly anticipated sequel of "Pacific Rim" begins to come into the light. As newly appointed director Steven S. DeKnight hints about the cast. He says the sequel will have entirely new cast members.

Prior to the "Pacific Rim 2," there is "The Belko Experiment" which will be released in March 2017, written and produced by James Gunn and directed by Greg McLean. The movie was premiered last week at the Toronto International Film Festival as reported by Comicbook.com, and received some serious buzz.

DeKnight took to Twitter to congratulate Gunn for a positive review on "The Belko Experiment." In the end of his post, he hinted the cast members will also be on the "Pacific Rim 2."

"So looking forward to this. And someone in this cast just happens to be in #PacificRim2... " tweeted DeKnight on Monday, Sept. 12.

Gunn then tweeted in respond, "Hahahaha! Ten-four, good buddy!"

"The Belko Experiment" is a thriller-horror movie with dark humor and bloody violence. It tells the story of 80 people who are trapped in a building in a social experiment that force them to kill-or-be-killed scenario. The film cast consist of strong actors John Gallagher, Jr., Tony Goldwyn, Adria Arjona, John C. McGinley, Josh Brener, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, and Melonie Diaz.

Although producer of "Pacific Rim 2" Benifico del Torro said to have some returning cast members, but he did not mention any name. Therefore, according to ScreenRant, DeKnight's tweet hinted semi-revealed new addition to the cast.

"Pacific Rim 2" is a sequel of the 2013 science fiction film "Pacific Rim" that tells the story about war between gigantic monsters called Kaiju against and human made robots, Jaegers. Kaiju appeared from an inter-dimensional portal in the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The movie ended with the success of the human being to close down the portal by detonating a nuclear bomb into the portal.

Up to now, plot details of the sequel is unknown and the production have been delayed several times. But Legendary and Universal Pictures set Feb. 28, 2018 as the release date of "Pacific Rim 2" which has working title of "Maelstrom."
