It is unfortunate when a fan project based on a beloved franchise has to be shut down. Such is the case with "Pokemon Uranium," where developers had to cease updates and online services and remove download links.

According to Slash Gear, the game from the developers themselves won't be available. Of course, with the internet being vast and flexible, there would be chances for players to find a copy of "Pokemon Uranium." However, caution should still be exercised if they find and play the game.

The Daily Dot also reported that Nintendo has been reporting numerous copyright claims towards "Pokemon Uranium." During that time, the game had 1.5 million downloads to count. Recently, Nintendo filed a DMCA takedown notice that erased more than 500 fan-made games from open-source game sites like Gaming Jolt.

The "Pokemon Uranium" team expressed the love and support they've been receiving from the fans. But now, it will be time for them "to move on to future projects." The team spent a good nine years making this game, shutting it down is very hard for them.

The team behind the game dedicated in creating new lore to the Pokemon universe, introducing them to the new Tandor region, with a 100 new Pokemon added to the list. A new Pokemon type was added also: the radioactive Uranium types. The story also took an interesting turn in the "Pokemon" series, being a bit grittier and darker than the other games in the franchise. The team really did an outstanding job for just an indie fan-made game, and it seems just a waste to see it close down permanently.
