In the midst of controversies linking Jung Joon Young to an alleged sexual assault case, rumors started circulating about his departure from his current program "2 Days & 1 Night." The reports were later confirmed by the production of the KBS program who announced the singer will be taking a break from the variety show.
In an official statement, "2 Days & 1 Night" production revealed the controversies about Jung have caused distress among the followers of the program. "It is very regrettable that Jung Joon Young's unfavorable scandal has given many viewers trouble and worry," Soompi quoted the production staff as saying.
After a series of deliberations, the team said it has decided to give Jung ample of time to handle his current situation. "After discussing with Jung Joon Young for a long time, it has been decided that he will be leaving for a time of self-reflection regardless of the inquiry's outcome.
The statement continued, "Jung Joon Young expresses his sincere apology to all of the "2 Days & 1 Night" colleagues as well as all the viewers, who have given him much love."
Meanwhile, "2 Days & 1 Night" will continue rolling despite Jung's departure. However, the production team said they will take Jung into consideration after the investigation of his alleged sexual assault case.
Recently, Jung submitted his cell phone to the police for the investigation of the case. According to C9 Entertainment, the phone was submitted to check whether it contains the video scandal or not, Allkpop noted.
Prior to that, the singer held a press conference where he admitted filming his intimate activity with then-girlfriend. However, Jung said it was done with the consent of his ex. He also clarified he did not use a hidden camera as what other reports would suggest.
Right now, his agency said Jung is just waiting for the police to contact him after they have checked his cell phone. It also said they are not certain whether the singer will have to go through further investigation or not.
