"Grey's Anatomy" has tapped Tessa Ferrer to return in Season 13. The actress will reprise her role as Leah Murphy, one of the new interns introduced in Season 9.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is possible that Ferrer's return to "Grey's Anatomy" as the ex-intern is connected to Arizona's storyline of getting a new love interest. Before Murphy left Season 10, she had become romantically involved with Arizona but the storyline was cut short. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes has not yet confirmed whether or not Murphy's return to Grey Sloan Memorial is solely for the purpose of the duo rekindling their past.
Arizona's portrayer, Jessica Capshaw, weighed-in on the mysterious woman set to be her character's new love. In an interview last week, the actress postulated that it could be someone who exudes a great amount of confidence and excitement.
"I have a feeling it will be very nice for them to have that quid pro quo and lively exchange and banter," she said.
Ferrer joins previously cast Bridget Regan (White Collar) who has been cast in a secret role on "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13. After her stint on the medical drama, Ferrer also appeared on "Extant" and "You're the Worst."
Meanwhile, this week's episode of "Grey's Anatomy" will find Meredith and Nathan defining their complicated relationship. As for Alex's highly-complex and emotional arc this season, the synopsis revealed that he will try to do the right thing - but still will not be able to catch a break. Viewers have yet to tune-in in the coming weeks to find out as to how Alex will recover from his back-to-back ordeals this season.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 airs every Thursday at 8PM on ABC.
