Talks have been circulating about the upcoming sequel of James Cameron's sci-fi epic "Avatar." After years of anticipation, the director has finally confirmed fans' speculations for "Avatar 2." Now numerous rumors on the sequel's plot have surfaced especially with the return of characters from the first movie like Sigourney Weaver's character Dr. Grace Augustine.
Based on the reports of Variety, viewers will be brought back into the perilous jungles of Pandora. Actor Sam Worthington returns as former marine-now-turned Na'vi warrior Jake Sully, along with "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Zoe Saldana as Neytiri. Along with the villain in the first movie Miles Quaritch (played by Stephen Lang), rumors have been circulating that the brilliant Dr. Grace Augustine (played by Sigourney Weaver) might be returning despite dying in the first movie.
Sigourney Weaver's character in the first movie was shot by Miles Quaritch after she arranged an escape plan with Jake Sully. After trying to meld with her avatar, it was too late for Dr. Augustine as she passed away. The sequel will reportedly bring her back somehow not as a protagonist, but as a villain.
In an earlier report, director James Cameron mentioned that "Avatar 2" will focus more on family, as both Jake Sully and Neytiri strive to raise a family. He added that "it's more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans."
In regards with the premiere date, the sequel may be possible released next year or even 2018. The first sequel has already been planned on starting production early in 2017, with a release date of December 2018. There are even rumors that three other sequels will be planned for release on 2020, 2022, and 2023.
