"Mad Men" actor Jared Harris, "Houdini and Doyle" newcomer Adam Nagaitis, "Game of Thrones" actress Ciaran Hinds, "Cuffs" actor Paul Ready are set to star in AMC's upcoming anthology drama series "The Terror." It seems that Harris will be returning to the network.
According to Deadline, Harris will play Captain Francis Crozier of the HMS Terror and second in command of the expedition in "The Terror." He is a brilliant sailor, captain, and an Irishman. However, he has reached his glass ceiling in the British Royal Navy and has become disillusioned with its pomp and politics.
Nagaitis plays Cornelius Hickey in "The Terror." Reports suggest that his role is expected to be a break-through job for him since it was a highly sought after part, as Variety reported.
Hinds will play Sir John Franklin and Ready as Henry Goodsir in "The Terror." Together with Hickey, they are all integral members of the crew aboard the ships. They join previously announced Tobias Menzies as Royal Navy member James Fitzjames.
"The Terror" is based on the bestselling 2007 novel by Dan Simmons. "True Story" writer David Kajganich and "The Whispers" screenwriter Soo Hugh serve as executive producers, writers, and co-showrunners with Scott Free, Alexandra Milchan's Emjag Productions, AMC Studios, and Entertainment 360.
"The Terror" centers on a Royal Naval expedition crew in the mid-19th century. The crew is attacked by a mysterious predator while searching for the Northwest Passage. They were forced into a suspenseful and desperate game of survival.
Harris can be seen next in the World War II thriller "Allied" with Brad Pitt. He also appeared as King George VI in the Netflix period drama "The Crown" coming out in November. He is known as Lane Pryce in "Mad Men" and is repped by ICM Partners and Independent Talent Group.
Nagaitis was last seen in "Suffragette" opposite Carey Mulligan. He just finished filming "The Commuter" for director Jaume Collette-Serra, starring Liam Neeson. He is repped by Management 360 and Curtis Brown Group.
The ten-episode straight-to-series drama "The Terror" is set to premiere in 2017.
