Tysse took a knee when she sang the the final lines of the song, "Land of the free and the home of the brave," as reported by USA Today  before the exhibition game between Milwaukee Bucks and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Many people were in shock when Tysse, one of the of KFBK's 31 Survivors in 31 Days breast cancer series, deliver her unexpected statement. She later explained in her Facebook page about the reason of her gesture.

"I love and honor my country as deeply as anyone yet it is my responsibility as an American to speak up against injustice as it affects my fellow Americans," she wrote. "I have sung the anthem before but this time taking a knee felt like the most patriotic thing I could do."

She was invited to sing the national antem in the brand new Milwaukee Bucks new stadium, the Golden 1 Center. During her singing the national anthem, everything was normal. Until suddently she kneeled down and lowered her head when singing the final lines of the song according to report by CBS

Her action was a definitive support to San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who refused to stand during the national anthem as protest to social injustice in the U.S. Kaepernick began the protest in the 49ers preseason game by sitting down. Afterward in the final preseason game on Sept. 1, he chose to kneel instead of sitting down.

Kaepernick's silence protest received both support and criticism. Many athletes, including from other U.S. sports leagues, follow his act. His jersey became top selling jerseys afterward, but many were also reported to protest by burning his jersey.
