After her debut in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" last March, the upcoming DC Extended Universe (DCEU) solo movie of "Wonder Woman" is finally crashing the theaters in 2017. The film features Gal Gadot as the Amazon warrior who works together with American pilot, and her love interest, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) to fight in The Great War.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film is said to be most prominent among the other female-led superhero movies. The artistic director of the Athena Film Festival, Melissa Silverstein, pointed out at the Cannes Film Festival that "Wonder Woman" is the first live-action movie that is directed by a woman, with a $100 million budget. Soon after, the heroine will team up with the other DCEU's major heroes.

According to the movie synopsis, Diana was a princess of the paradise island of Themyscira and a trained warrior before she became Wonder Woman. It was then when a pilot, Trevor, crashed on the island and spoke to her of a massive conflict happening in the outside world that Diana leaves home, certain that she can put a stop to it.

Pine describes Steve Trevor as a "rogue-ish cynical realist" during his interview with Toronto Sun. He speaks further of the film, saying that the setting is centered in the First World War, which according to him, is a period we do not often see. He also plays a second role, in the character of Trevor's grandfather who appears during the World War I scenes.

The villain in the film has not been confirmed yet, however, it is rumored that it may be Ares, the god of war who gains his strength and power from the conflict of men. It likely explains why the plot is set during the First World War, which is said to be the "war to end all wars".

The main cast of the movie also includes Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Connie Nielsen Robin Wright, Lucy Davis, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner and David Thewlis.

The forthcoming DC film is set to hit threaters on June 2, 2017. Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new action-packed trailer of the film. Watch it here.
