It looks the "Green Hornet" film franchise is not dead after all, since another reboot is on the way thanks to Gavin O'Connor helming the project.

Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures and Chernin Entertainment have already secured the rights to the "Green Hornet" film franchise and are planning to progress the film's direction with an edgier take on Britt Reid or better known as the Green Hornet. Director Gavin O'Connor has had a directorial hand in other films like "The Accountant" and "Warrior," and is also collaborating with writer Sean O'Keefe, who will be penning the script.

"The Green Hornet" actually had a chance at the silver screen back then in 2011 from Columbia Pictures. The 2011 version of the film was directed by Michel Gondry and starred Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet (who also co-wrote the script). The film, however, received a huge negative backlash and lost the opportunity of getting a sequel.

According to IGN, O'Connor was able to partner with Peter Chernin (Chernin Entertainment) and had Paramount Pictures to help him claim the rights to the film franchise. The director was eagerly awaiting the opportunity to reboot "The Green Hornet," taking nearly 20 years to settle it.

O'Connor had envisioned "The Green Hornet" reboot "to bring a gravitas to The Green Hornet that wipes away the camp and kitsch of the previous iteration." He even added that Britt Reid/The Green Hornet to be "Batman upside down meets Bourne inside out by way of Chris Kyle [American Sniper]" and "the anti-Bruce Wayne."
