Amy Schumer, star of hit comedy "Trainwreck," is in talks to play the role of Barbie in Sony's live-action, PG-rated film.

According to Deadline, Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele are expected to rewrite the original screenplay of the project penned by Hilary Winston. The plot is in the vein of movies like "Splash" and "Big," wherein Schumer's title role gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough. She then goes on a self-discovery adventure in the real world where she realizes that perfection comes from within and the key to happiness is embracing one's flaws and not adhering to society's rigid standards of beauty.

"Barbie" the movie will begin shooting in the spring and has been set for a summer 2018 release. Sony and the producers are still looking for a director to helm the project. The deal between Schumer and Sony are now being finalized.

After "Trainwreck," Schumer has been busy working on other movie projects including the PTSD drama "Thank You for Your Service" where she co-stars opposite Miles Teller (War Dogs) and an untitled mother and daughter comedy from FOX.

On TV, Schumer is yet to release a fifth season of her sketch comedy series, "Inside Amy Schumer" which airs on Comedy Central. Back in August, it was reported that there have been issues going on behind the scenes of the show after Schumer fired one of their writers. Despite of this, Schumer said that the show is not cancelled and explained that she is only taking a break from production because she's busy touring for her stand-up comedy shows.

"#InsideAmySchumer is not cancelled. @ComedyCentral has provided us with a wonderful home and we couldn't be happier there," Schumer wrote on a Twitter post.

"I am just touring."

"Inside Amy Schumer" Season 5 will premiere sometime in 2017. Sony has yet to announce an official release date of the "Barbie" live-action film.
