The arcade version of "Pokken Tournament" continues to release new content on a regular basis and the latest announcement is the Water/Steel type Pokémon Empoleon. The release comes with an introductory trailer that showcases the Pokémon as well as its different moves, fighting with the other characters already available in the game. The character is scheduled to be added on December 15 and no information has been given on a release for the Wii U version.
Empoleon is the final evolution of Piplup, which evolves into Prinplup before Empoleon. Empoleon is a large Pokemon with features derived from a penguin. It has three horns that form a trident shape on its head. The Pokemon has made several appearances in the "Pokémon" television series as well as the manga.
The latest release comes after the Pokémon Scizor who was announced last October and was added officially to the roster on October 20. This release was also for the arcade versions and no information has surfaced on any releases for the Wii U. Players are also given the option to evolve Scizor to Mega Scizor. A lot of new Pokémon have been released this year for the arcade version. Last July saw the release of Darkrai, while other new characters include Shadow Mewtwo, Garchomp, and Braixen.
"Pokken Tournament" is a play on words by developer Bandai Namco Studios, referencing another fighting franchise "Tekken". "Pokken Tournament" takes several fighting elements from "Tekken" and applies it to their game. It saw a release in Japan arcades during 2015 while the worldwide release for the Wii U was launched last March 2016. Interestingly, the game was designed with controllers in mind apart from the usual fighting joystick. The game now has over 20 playable Pokémon with 30 non-playable assist Pokémon.
