The first official trailer of "Alien: Covenant" has been released by 20th Century Fox on Christmas Day, giving fans of the franchise a first look into the sequel of the hit 2012 film, "Prometheus."
The scifi thriller film, directed by Ridley Scott, will arrive in the summer of 2017. Star Michael Fassbender reprises his Prometheus role as the Android David, and is also portraying a second android in the form of Walter in Alien: Covenant. Fassbender is joined by an ensemble cast including Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollet, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby.
Scott's latest sci-fi offering follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, they discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
Back in July, Fassbender shared (via Collider) that director Ridley Scott was really aiming to level up the scare factor on "Alien: Covenant," while also teasing that the new elements in the film is "much scarier" than "Prometheus."
"It's kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it's kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films," the actor said.
"I'm really excited to see it, I think it's gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus... Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn't let up. It's really gonna bring chills to the cinema."
James Franco (Why Him) is also reported to play a mysterious role on "Alien: Covenant," according to Variety. Details on his role are still being kept under wraps.
"Alien: Covenant" will open in theaters in May 19, 2017.
