After years in development, the long-gestating crime drama "Triple Frontier" movie has finally found the actors that will play its lead characters-Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum. Both stars are reportedly in the running to play starring roles in the story.

Hardy and Tatum are in early talks to join the "Triple Frontier" cast, which will be directed J.C. Chandor, The Hollywood Reporter reported. As the project is still in its early stages, no information on Hardy's and Tatum's characters has been revealed.

According to Variety, "Triple Frontier" movie is based on the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. The area is difficult to monitor and locate, making it one of the world's largest havens for organized crime.

It was first developed in the early 2000s and was supposed to be directed Kathryn Bigelow of "The Hurt Locker" fame. Throughout the course of its development, actors Tom Hanks, Will Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio showed interest in the joining the movie. The movie, however, was put on hold when Bigelow decided to take on "Zero Dark Thirty." She eventually dropped out of "Triple Frontier" movie to focus on other projects. Despite the postponement, the project continues to draw interest from big-name actors, including Johnny Depp who reportedly circled the project in early 2016.

Meanwhile, Tatum is set to star in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle," sequel to the 2014 surprise box office hit that stars Colin Firth and breakout star Taron Egerton. The production has revealed very few details about Tatum's role, but photos from the set suggest that he will be playing an American spy attached to Statesman, which is said to be the US-version of Kingsman.

Hardy currently stars in FX's mysterious new thriller "Taboo." The series also stars Oona Chaplin, Tom Holland, David Hayman and Michael Kelly. Hardy plays James Delaney, the estranged son of a landed man who is presumed dead for years. He sudden reappearance in his hometown complicates the situation regarding his inheritance.

No release date for the "Triple Frontier" movie has been revealed.
