Marvel and DC are going head to head in producing different TV series based on their popular characters; however, DC's latest stint with NBC will offer something entirely different as it focuses on the lives of the people who work around the superheroes.

Meet Bruce Wayne's Cousin Van

According to Uproxx, the upcoming TV series "Powerless" will focus on the lives of the people working for Wayne Security led by Bruce Wayne's cousin Van, played by Alan Tudyk. Their company's main function is to come up with various gadgets that could help people protect themselves from disasters caused by superhero confrontations against villains. Tudyk will work with Vanessa Hudgens (Emily Locke), Danny Pudi (Teddy) and Christina Kirk (Jackie).

Although the comedy rests mainly on Van, the story will most revolve around Hudgens character Emily. Hudgen's character is the director of research for the company and their ideas will most likely go through their boss, Van.

Series Not Part of DC Canon?

"Powerless" maybe based on the popular DC superhero stories but the canon about the series is partly based on an obscure character. According to Entertainment Weekly, Tudyk's character could be based on Vanderveer Wayne who appeared in Batman #148 in 1962. The character is also has a brash attitude that he even hired a fake Batman so he could be Robin.

Of course, Vanderveer did not know the real identity of his cousin. In the comic book series, he and his fake Batman got into trouble and they have to be rescued by the real Batman and Robin.

But even though Van is partially based on an obscure character from the 60s, Alan Tudyk portrayal of a brash rich kid (he calls his cousin B-Dubs) surrounded by superheroes could be a fun idea. He'll definitely stand out in the series as his subordinates try to figure out what he really wants.

"Powerless" premieres on NBC Feb 2. Watch the trailer of the upcoming comedy series below:
