Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb said that ABC is to blame for the cancellation of "Agent Carter."
In an interview, Loeb said that if it were up to them, they would like to continue the series. He clarified that such decision was ultimately up to ABC where the series aired for two seasons, Entertainment Weekly reported.
"Unlike the movie studio where they can say, 'In 2019 we're making Captain Marvel,' the television division doesn't have that ability. We are, at the end of the day, beholden to the network that we're on. So for all of you Agent Carter fans out there, we didn't cancel the show," he explains.
Revival talks of "Agent Carter" had been on the rise lately since Hayley Atwell's "Conviction" is reportedly in trouble. Technically, the series had not been canceled officially but it did not receive a full season order either.
Earlier, Loeb said that he wants to have Atwell back as Agent Carter but the series would have to find another home to air. He said that in case he receives a call from any of their network partners, he would be more than happy to accommodate the show under Marvel schedule again, Screen Rant reported.
Since its conclusion, fans of the show has signed petitions for Netflix to rescue the series as they have with other cancelled properties. However, the likelihood of that seems dim. Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos said that the streaming service is more interested in picking up original content when it comes to Marvel properties as of the moment.
As for Marvel TV, the studio currently has "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" on ABC with "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," and "Luke Cage" all airing on Netflix. As for future projects, "Iron Fist will soon go for streaming and the same goes for "The Punisher" and "The Defenders."
